Alström syndrome is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the gene ALMS1.
Alström works at the data bank (Artdatabanken) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, but has previously worked at Uppsala University and the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
The European Commission has handed out a massive €750 million in fines to Siemens, Alstrom, Areva, Schneider and Japanese firms Fuji, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba and Japan AE Systems.
