In May 2003, Preston published his autobiography Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People, where he wrote of playing poker with Larry Flynt, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon among others.

Following his WSOP victory he appeared on several talk shows, including The Tonight Show, and had a bit part in the 1974 Robert Altman movie California Split.

Fisher was also runner-up to Ungar in 1989 at the Amarillo Slim's Super Bowl of Poker.
In 1988, Cernuto won the $1,000 Seven Card Stud event at Amarillo Slim's Super Bowl of Poker tournament series, earning a cash prize of $58,000 in addition to the title.
In 1990 in the $5,000 Pot limit Omaha event, he finished 2nd to former world champion Amarillo Slim.
