On 11 June 2009 he signed for R.E. Mouscron in Belgium, replacing Enzo Scifo and being joined at the top division team by former Valencia teammates Amedeo Carboni and Juan Sánchez, who acted as sporting director and technical director, respectively; all left shortly after, as the club folded due to severe economical problems.

With the new technical staff of R.E. Mouscron – Miroslav Đukić (coach) and Amedeo Carboni (technical director) – playing a major part in his signing, Aspas moved to the Belgian League for the 2009–10 campaign.
In June 2009 he moved to R.E. Mouscron in Belgium, in the same capacity, rejoining former Valencia teammates Amedeo Carboni and Miroslav Đukić (the latter being signed as head coach).
