6 unusual facts about Amenmesse

Amenmesse

Amenmesse was also responsible for restoring a shrine dating from Thutmose III that stands before a temple at Tod.

Chancellor Bay

It is possible that Bay was accorded this tomb because he was a relation of Siptah's mother, a Canaanite concubine of Seti II, or perhaps even of Amenmesse.

KV11

Located in the main valley of the Valley of the Kings, the tomb was originally started by Setnakhte, but abandoned when it broke into the earlier tomb of Amenmesse (KV10).

Siptah

: "The only ruler of the period who could have promoted such destruction was Amenmesse, and likewise he was the only king whose offspring would have required such explicit promotion. The demolition of this figure is likely to have closely followed the fall of Bay or the death of Siptah himself, when any shortlived rehabilitation of Amenmesse would have ended".

Takhat

Another Takhat is believed to have been the Great Royal Wife of Amenmesse.

Twosret

Queen Twosret is thought to have been a daughter of Merenptah, possibly a daughter of Takhat, thereby making her sister to Amenmesse.
