American Contract Bridge League

Besides the Bridge Bulletin, other ACBL publications include the Laws of Duplicate Bridge (named Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge until 2008), the ACBL Bridge Series of lessons for beginners, and free instructional software.

The ACBL has also published the ACBL Bridge Series, a series of books written by Audrey Grant and designed to teach the game to beginners, as well as to help more experienced players review and expand upon their knowledge of the game.

Unlike the Elo rating system developed for chess, the masterpoint system is strictly one of accumulation.

McConnell Cup

The event was inaugurated in 1994 and is named in honor of Ruth McConnell, former treasurer for the World Bridge Federation (WBF) and former president of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).

In 2012 the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) named Osofsky and Barbara Seagram as being joint holders of number 40 of the 52 most influential personalities in the organization's history for their work at promoting friendly behavior at the bridge table.

Bridge convention

Under the rules of the sponsoring organization (for example national federations such as American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) and the English Bridge Union (EBU), zonal organizations, and the World Bridge Federation (WBF)), certain conventions are alertable, the partner of the player making the conventional call must say "alert" (or show an alert card from the bidding box) before the right-hand opponent calls.

Masterpoints

At the international level, competitions and point awards are administered by the World Bridge Federation (WBF); its affiliates at the multi-national level, such as the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), also issue points as do more local organisations such as the English Bridge Union (EBU), and the Deutsche Bridge Verband (DBV) and independent ones such as the American Bridge Association (ABA).
