In 1969 the school moved to improved facilities in Surra, Kuwait.

In 1963 a group of American parents began the process of forming a new international school modeled after the "authentic American educational plan." This new school's first term began in September 1964 in the Dasman Area of Sharq, Kuwait as the International School of Kuwait with an official ceremony on November 5, 1964.

Eventually, an elementary-only campus was established in Salwa, Kuwait; the Surra campus remained for middle and high school students only.
