Educated at Ananda College, Colombo, Vaas Gunawardene joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1980 as an Officer cadet and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
Ananda College and Nalanda College so far produced 42 players who represented Sri Lanka in Test,One Day International and T20 formats.
An old boy of Ananda College Colombo and a graduate of the University of Ceylon (University of Colombo), Mr. Sumanasekera holds a Diploma in Education in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka.
