Kingdom of Bora Bora

The history of Bora Bora is marked by the rivalry of two clans: one based near Faanui, consisting of families attached to the marae Farerua, and the other consisting of the families of Nunue and Anau around the marae Vaiotaha, which was long among the most important marae of Polynesia.

New Zealand State Highway 94

The Milford Road section began in 1926 when a local Station Owner, started making his own road from Te Anau Downs Harbour south to the Te Anau Hotel, starting a project which turned into the most scenic highway in New Zealand including iconic landmarks the Mirror Lakes, the Avenue of Disappearing Mountain, Lake Gunn, the Key Summit, Mount Christina, Mount Talbot, the Homer Tunnel, The Chasm, Mount Tutoko and Mitre Peak.

Te Anau aerodrome

A large powerstation project in the 1960s at nearby Lake Manapouri saw a new paved strip built 12km to the south of Te Anau to service the work force.

Te Anau Aerodrome was established in the 1940s, located beside State Highway 95 just south of the lakeside town.
