Ankole-Watusi have played a pivotal role in the lives of various African tribes – Tutsi, Ankole, Bahima, Bashi, Bakiga, and the Kivu – although the Tutsi are most often associated with the breed.

The second, the Banyoro, numbered 520,000 aborigines; the third, the Bahima (who are Hamites), the leading class in the shepherd Kingdom of Ankole, was a minority not exceeding 50,000 souls.
But the numbers kept growing, with students coming from as far as Busoga, Bunyoro, Toro and Ankole.
Whereas most societies in Uganda, like the North and North eastern communities, were loosely set up systems led by clan leaders, others like Bunyoro, Buganda, Ankole and Toro were organised kingdoms.
