They were plotted from air photos taken from Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions aircraft in 1956, and named by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia after the Australian native willow, "Boobyalla" (Acacia longifolia).

Boving Island

Named by ANCA for F. Boving, third officer on MV Thala Dan in 1965, who assisted in a hydrographic survey in the vicinity.

New Year Nunatak

So named by Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) because the nunatak was visited by a geological party of the Soviet Antarctic Expedition on New Year's Day of 1966.

Pythagoras Peak

It was named by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) after Pythagoras, Greek philosopher, whose theorem concerning a right-angled triangle is well known.
