4 unusual facts about Anthony Jenkinson

Anthony Jenkinson

There exists speculation that Jenkinson had an illegitimate daughter, Anne Beck or Whateley, who was at one point engaged to be married to William Shakespeare.

His party continued their journey south-east after traveling across the Caspian Sea to Serachik (Serakhs), where they joined a merchant caravan and traveled for several months across the Tatar lands of the Nogai Horde.

After being held up at Kholmogory for six months due to plague, Jenkinson was finally able to arrive in Moscow by May 1572.

Ralph Fitch

This was the latest in a series of English attempts to penetrate the trade of the Indian Ocean and Far East, going back to Anthony Jenkinson's travels in Central Asia in the 1550s.
