Antofagasta

The urban area of Antofagasta begins abruptly, breaking the monotony of the desert and is located in the coastal plains, south of the “Peninsula of Mejillones” and north of “Cerro Coloso”.

The city has little vegetation because it is situated in the Atacama Desert, which is the world's driest desert.

The plan was approved by the Chile environmental authorities; however, the approval was annulled by the appeals court of Antofagasta.

Hornby's Storm Petrel

It is thought to breed between March and July, as this is when fledglings are regularly seen at sea around Lima (in Peru) and Antofagasta (in Chile).


Andrónico Luksic

Luksic was born in Antofagasta, to a Bolivian mother, Elena Abaroa (great-grandchild of Bolivian War of the Pacific hero Eduardo Abaroa), and a Croatian immigrant father, Policarpo, who had arrived in Chile from the Adriatic island of Brač in 1910 and had made a living in the nitrate industry.
