Apoera

The Surinamese writer Clark Accord wrote the novel "Between Apoera and Oreala" which was published in 2005.

Currently there is a lot of timber extraction taking place at Apoera including at the modern business complex of the sawmill of the Greenheart Group.

In the framework of the IIRSA project on the upgrading of the road between Ciudad Guayana, San Martín de Turumbang, Linden, Apoera and Paramaribo, a bridge spanning the Courantyne River is planned near Apoera.

Kabalebo

There is the bauxite mine in the Bakhuis mountain range with the corresponding (never used and in the meantime declining) railway line to Apoera and during the reign of president Henck Arron (1975-1980), there were plans, part of the West Suriname Plan, to build a dam in Kabalebo for power generation for the benefit of the mining activities.

MK was also involved in the construction of rail projects such as the BART extension (M-K also built 80 C2 cars for BART in 1994) and the single track Apoera-Bakhuys railway in Suriname (1976–1977).
