Kanakatte was also a headquarters of Singarasa, a local chieftan ruling at Arasikere, who shifted his headquarters from Arasikere to this place during 1132 CE.
An inscription dated 1132 states that Singarasa was relocated from Arasikere to Kanakatte, where he built a temple named Bettadakalideva for Shiva by installing a linga.
