In the 1990s, following a series of mergers joined it with Arcelor.
In 2002, ARBED merged with other European steel companies to form Arcelor, which in turn merged with Mittal Steel in 2006 to form ArcelorMittal, and the building changed ownership accordingly.
The main production sites of flat steel products are Ghent-Zelzate, Dunkirk, Avilés, Gijón, Fos-sur-Mer, Piombino, Liège, Florange, Bremen, Eisenhüttenstadt and recently São Francisco do Sul in Brazil.
As one of the most prodigious iron-producing regions in Western Europe, the Red Lands developed a thriving local steel industry, which has now developed into Arcelor, the world’s second largest producer of steel.

The Institut de recherche de la sidérurgie (IRSID) is the old name of ArcelorMittal Maizières Research SA, a private research center related to the siderurgical society ArcelorMittal (originally (Usinor, then Arcelor)), situated at Maizières-lès-Metz, in Lorraine.
Platted by Joseph Bailly in 1833, north of Chesterton, where the Arcelor/Mittal (previously Bethlehem) Steel mill is located.
