Archimedes Patti

Archimedes L.A. Patti (1913–1998) was an American U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and former Office of Strategic Services officer who headed OSS operations in Kunming and Hanoi in 1945.

Patti is famous for having worked closely with the Viet Minh and Ho Chi Minh, leader of the Vietnamese independence movement and future president of North Vietnam.

During his career in China and Southeast Asia Patti met Ho Chi Minh, the leader of the Viet Minh and future leader and national hero of North Vietnam.

Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam

OSS officers met repeatedly with Ho Chi Minh and other Viet Minh officers during late August and Archimedes Patti claims to listened to Ho read to him a draft of the Proclamation which he believed sounded very similar to the American Declaration of Independence.

During their time in Hanoi the OSS officers and their team met with Ho Chi Minh and although Swift did not speak French as Patti did he also met with Ho Chi Minh on at least one occasion.
