3 unusual facts about Arlington West

Arlington Southwest

Developed by the Big Bend Veterans for Peace, Arlington Southwest is believed to be the first permanent memorial dedicated to those fallen in the war similar to those established as the temporary Arlington West memorials in California in 2003.

Larry Northern

In August 2005 Northern was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after he drove his pickup truck through the Arlington West display of memorial crosses (each bearing the name of an American soldier killed in Iraq) that had been set up at Camp Casey, the protest site organized by peace activist Cindy Sheehan near the ranch of President George W. Bush near Crawford, Texas.

Veterans for Peace

Local chapters continue to conduct educational forums, demonstrations, and ongoing Iraq memorial displays such as Arlington West (portrayed in the documentary Arlington West: The Film) to remember the growing human cost of the war, to end the occupation, and to bring U.S. troops home.
