In December 1944, Fjellbu was appointed Bishop of the liberated parts of Northern Norway by the Norwegian government-in-exile.
Following this, he knelt before the high altar, where Bishop Arne Fjellbu laid his hand on the king's head and recited a special prayer of consecration and blessing which formed the climax of the ritual:Eternal, Almighty God, Heavenly Father, we thank thee whose grace in need has always gone over our land in woeful and good times to this day.
The white, wooden church building was constructed in 1949 and it was consecrated on 24 July 1949 by the Bishop Arne Fjellbu.
The church was remodeled in 1950 and was re-consecrated on 29 May 1953 by Bishop Arne Fjellbu.
But when planning the 900th anniversary of the death of St. Olav, chaplain Arne Fjellbu, later to become bishop, took the initiative to establish a new boys' choir in Trondheim.
