U.S. Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal Of Honor for his actions during Operation Red Wings, which took place in the mountainous terrain near Asadabad from June to July 2005.
Ambushed by members of the Taliban on the main highway from Jalalabad to Asadabad, Norgrove and others were eventually taken into the Dewegal Valley within the Chowkai District by their captors.
Hekmatyar was victorious and eventually his troops sacked Asadabad.
