A third album (and second to be released), 1998's Cold Coffee Morning, was issued on Asylum Records, followed by 1999's Willin′ on the independent Eminent label.
The line may be a reference to the fact that after disappointing sales of his The Envoy album, Asylum Records dropped Zevon, but never told him about what they had done.

After leaving Mercury in the early 1980s, Ward briefly signed to Asylum Records, releasing a cover of Ricky Nelson's "Travelin' Man" that year.
