The Board of Certification serves as the national certifying body for athletic training, and its Standards of Professional Practice outline the roles and responsibilities of certified athletic trainers.

In 1989, became an independent non-profit corporation and soon later changed its name to the Board of Certification (BOC).
The certification program for entry-level Athletic Trainers was meant to establish standards to meet in order to enter the profession of Athletic training.
The Foundation also sponsors the Baltimore Sports Media Hall of Fame Award and presents the Professional Football Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award.
The facility also houses team locker rooms, a team lounge, training rooms, a coach's locker room and coach's offices.

Earth City is home to Rams Park (now the Russell Athletic Training Center named after sportswear manufacturer Russell Athletic), the St. Louis Rams' training facility and offices.
Programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology, the American Chemical Society, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, and the National Association of Schools of Music.
In 2009 he established a full scholarship for out-of-state minority students enrolled in BU's Master of Science in clinical athletic training program.
