The larvae can be found on the leaves of bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara) or occasionally deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna).
Atropa belladonna, or deadly nightshade, in the nightshade family
A theory by author David Slater, proposes that Taylor’s experience may have been a belladonna induced hallucination that triggered memories of a recently aired Doctor Who episode in which a spaceship of similar appearance featured.
Under the care of Dr. William Duncan Silkworth (an early benefactor of AA), Wilson's detox included the deliriant belladonna.
It can also be extracted from plants of the family Solanaceae as well, including Atropa belladonna (deadly nightshade), Datura inoxia and Datura stramonium (jimson weed).
