After an interrupted spell at law school, she took education as an audiographer and founded Strømmen Høresenter AS with her husband Dr. Finn R. Korsrud at Strømmen.
He received a B. A. in speech communication from Ripon College in 1963, and both an M. A. and a Ph.D. in speech pathology, audiology and speech science from Ohio University in 1965 and 1968 respectively.
After some time spent studying pre-doctoral electronic engineering at the Technical University of Munich in Germany and at the Audiology and ENT Department at Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark, she completed her PhD at Northeastern University in 1978.
