Auetal is a municipality in the district of Schaumburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Before a member of the family of Holstein-Gottorp was to sit on either the Swedish or the Russian throne, Duke Charles Frederick died in 1739 in the Saxon village of Rolfshagen.
From this type of settlement, long linear villages developed like Auhagen, Wiedensahl, Isernhagen, Kathrinhagen or Rodewald in Lower Saxony.
Kirsten Münchow (known as Kirsten Klose from 2002 until 2007; born 21 January 1977 in Auetal-Rehren) is a German hammer thrower who won the Olympic bronze medal in 2000 with a personal best throw of 69.28 metres.
