Mr Percival

Mr Percival (1976 - 2 September, 2009) was an Australian Pelican, noted for his appearance in the 1976 Australian film Storm Boy.

Strzelecki Desert Lakes Important Bird Area

The site has been identified by BirdLife International as an IBA because it has supported significant numbers of Freckled and Pink-eared Ducks, Grey Teals, Hardheads, Australian Pelicans, Banded Stilts, Red-necked Avocets and Caspian Terns.

Sydney Park

Stormwater retention ponds constructed in the eastern section of the site have been transformed into wetland habitats, partially recreating the original character of the eastern part of the site, and this has attracted a wide variety of bird and animal life including Dusky Moorhens, Australian Magpies and Pelicans.


Anson Bay, Daly and Reynolds River Floodplains

The site several large waterbird nesting colonies; other birds that breed in relatively large numbers include Little Black, Little Pied and Pied Cormorants, Darters, Australian White Ibises, Royal Spoonbills, Australian Pelicans, Great, Intermediate and Cattle Egrets, Pied Herons and Nankeen Night Herons.

Lake Sylvester System

Some 2262 km2 of the lake system and its surrounds has been identified as a by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it has supported breeding colonies of the Letter-winged Kites and over 1% of the world populations of Plumed Whistling-Ducks, Grey Teals, Hardheads, Little Black Cormorants, Australian Pelicans, Straw-necked Ibises, Eurasian Coots, Oriental Plovers, Gull-billed Terns and Flock Bronzewings.

Swan Bay

Other birds found in the region include the Australian Pelican, Silver Gull, Royal Spoonbill, Caspian and Crested Terns, White-fronted Chat, Sacred Ibis, Red-necked Stint, Little Pied Cormorant and Pied Oystercatcher.
