2 unusual facts about Swan Bay


Blues Train

The four-carriage train, drawn by a steam locomotive, departs from Queenscliff railway station after customers have eaten, running around the southern shoreline of Swan Bay through saltmarsh before puffing up the hill to the Bellarine plateau and travelling through grazing country.

Other birds found in the region include the Australian Pelican, Silver Gull, Royal Spoonbill, Caspian and Crested Terns, White-fronted Chat, Sacred Ibis, Red-necked Stint, Little Pied Cormorant and Pied Oystercatcher.


Point Lonsdale

Next to the town is Lake Victoria a shallow saline lake that is part of the Lonsdale Lakes Nature Reserve and an important site for the waterbirds and migratory waders that form part of the population using the Ramsar-listed Swan Bay wetland system.
