Another bear pit in Bern, Switzerland, known as the Bärengraben, was built in 1857 and is still in use to display bears, albeit supplemented by the adjacent BärenPark, a larger and more natural enclosure to which it is linked by tunnel.
The most popular motif is the bear, Berne's heraldic animal, which is shown in various scenes and poses, such as in the Bärengraben.
