5 unusual facts about BTS Skytrain


Bangkok BRT

The system's island platforms are accessed by elevated enclosed station facilities, and it shares the ticketing system of the BTS Skytrain.

Both termini connect to the Silom Line of the BTS Skytrain; at Chong Nonsi (S3) and at the newly opened Talat Phlu (S10).

BTS Skytrain

The rolling stock of BTS Skytrain, in use since the opening of the line in 1999, consist of 35 Siemens Modular Metro trains from Siemens AG.

The Silom Line cars have been modified to support a signaling system from Bombardier Transportation since the extension from Saphan Taksin to Wong Wian Yai.

The BTS system (the elevated metro system owned by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) was initially referred to as the Lavalin Skytrain because it was to be designed using the Vancouver SkyTrain as a model adopting the technology developed by SNC-Lavalin.


Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak market is adjacent to the Kamphaengphet station of the MRT Blue Line, or about a 5-minute walk from the Mo Chit station of the BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line and another MRT station, Chatuchak Park and BMTA .

Chula-Siam Monorail

First routes planned to start construction around early 2012 along Phaya Thai Road from Sam Yan to Siam Square, connecting Siam Station of BTS Skytrain and Sam Yan Station of MRT Blue Line.
