In Oxford, the degree of Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) is a taught postgraduate degree in English law, occupying a similar position as the Master of Laws (LLM) programmes of other British universities, but specifically for common law degree holders.

Professor Fidelis Oditah, QC, SAN, LLB (Lagos), MA, BCL, DPhil (Oxon), is an English barrister, an authority on insolvency law, and a prospective Governor of Delta State in Nigeria.
Bindman attended the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, and then graduated from Oriel College, Oxford, with a law degree in 1956, qualifying as a solicitor three years later.
Graduating BA in 1842, he took his BCL, was elected Vinerian scholar and fellow, and having read in chambers with Roundell Palmer (afterwards Lord Selborne), was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1846.
He went to University College, Oxford (University of Oxford), where he was awarded a BA Honours (MA) degree in Modern History, the B.Litt., and the BCL.
Educated at Royal College Colombo, he gained a B.A. from the University of Ceylon and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship (to the University of Oxford) where he gained a degree of Bachelor of Civil Law.
Born in Melbourne, Canada East, studied at St Francis College and received a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from McGill University in 1862.
He studied law in University College Dublin, receiving a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree in 1978.
