It was a remake of well known Tamil movie Poove Unakkaga and the second half of the film was inspired by the Tom Shadyac's, The Nutty Professor.
The film was remade in Telugu as Subhakankshalu (1997), in Kannada as Ee Hrudaya Ninagagi (1997) and in Hindi as Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002).
