A prolific architect, he is known for his design of the Palacio de Comunicaciones (Communications Palace) and Hotel Florida in Madrid, the Garcia Barbon Theatre in Vigo and many other works in those cities and places like Mondariz, Baiona or his home town O Porriño.
In 1585 the inhabitants of Baiona repelled an attempt to take the town by the privateer Francis Drake.
The Machado and Talamantes families, co-grantees of the rancho, heralded from Baiona in northern Spain.
When he came back, the band was reinforced with Ramon Vidal, a guitar player, and a new section, Els Vents de Baiona ("The winds of Baiona", sax and trumpets).
