Hemus Air, named after the ancient name for the Balkan mountains, is owned by Varna-based industrial/financial enterprise TIM.


Chelopech Municipality

The Chelopech Municipality includes only one village - Chelopech, which is located on the Southern side of the Balkan Mountains, on the main road from the capital Sofia to Burgas.

Located in the western Balkan Mountains, it is known as the home village of Ivan Vazov's heroine Baba Iliytsa from the tale One Bulgarian Woman.

Petrich, Sofia Province

According to the Treaty of Berlin of 1878 the border between the liberated Principality of Bulgaria and the autonomous Eastern Rumelia followed the summit of the Balkan mountains and went southwards between Pirdop and Dushintsi eventually following the Topolnitsa river at Petrich.
