Polk Carey's great-great-great-grandfather, James Carey, an 18th- and 19th-century Baltimore shipper, chairman of the Bank of Maryland, a member of Baltimore's first City Council, and a relative of university founder Johns Hopkins.


George Hyde Fallon

He was elected to the Baltimore City Council, where he served from 1939 to 1944, at which point he won election as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth the twelve succeeding congresses, serving from January 3, 1945, to January 3, 1971.
