Theatres proliferated, especially (though not exclusively) in neighborhoods outside the city's walls and the Corporation's control — in Shoreditch to the north, or the Bankside and Paris Garden in Southwark, on the southern bank of the River Thames: the Curtain, the Rose, the Swan, the Fortune, the Globe, the Blackfrairs — a famous roster.

In 1999, he acted in Shakespeare's play Antony and Cleopatra at the Bankside Globe Theatre in London with Paul Shelley; Mark Rylance (Cleopatra); John McEnery; Danny Sapani (Charmian); Mark Lewis Jones; and Toby Cockerell (Octavia) in the cast.
The Cherry Orchard at The Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks and in 2009 he was asked to direct the somewhat 'eyebrows' raised from the purist mid winter production of Midsummer Night's Dream for Shakespeare's The Rose (theatre) on London's Bankside.

In 2008 he wrote ROSE WITHOUT A THORN for The Rose (theatre) on London's Bankside which looked at the life of Catherine Howard and this was the first fully costumed brand new full-length play to be performed at this theatre for over 400 years.
Well away from the site of the base, but equally important was the construction of the airbase's aviation fuel bunker, the largest in the country which was located at Bankside, beside the north bank of the Rakaia River next the Main South Line Railway.
