Barnim I, Duke of Pomerania

Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstufen in 1231 put the Duchy of Pomerania under the suzerainty of the Ascanian margraves of Brandenburg, disregarding the tenure of the Griffin dynasty, and thereby fueling the long-term Brandenburg–Pomeranian conflict.

Pomorzany, Szczecin

The village (under the name of Pomerenstorp) was first mentioned in 1253 in document of Barnim I, Duke of Pomerania.


Jaromar II, Prince of Rügen

During the early years of his reign, he tried to maintain peaceful relations with his neighbours, the Dukes of Pomerania, especially with the princes of Gützkow, who were vassals of Barnim I.

Riether Werder

The first recorded mention of the island dates to the year 1252, when Duke Barnim I of Pomerania gifted this island along with other possessions to Eldena Abbey.
