Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland, England were made famous by Geoff Hamilton through the BBC television series Gardeners' World which he presented from 1979 until his death in 1996.
Barnsdale was a large country house, built in 1890 as a hunting lodge for Earl Fitzwilliam by architect E. J. May.
From 1979 until his death, he was the show's regular, and longest-serving presenter, and, in 1985, was responsible for moving the show's venue to his own garden at Barnsdale, Rutland.
George B. Cox House, one-time home to renown Cincinnati political boss George Barnsdale Cox, and later the longtime home to the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Cincinnati.
It meets the A606 and Hereward Way at Whitwell, then passes through the two watersports centres on Rutland Water at Whitwell and Barnsdale.
The village is less than a mile from the boundary with North Yorkshire to the east, with the boundary following the A1 from the River Went to Barnsdale Bar, where this is the southernmost point of North Yorkshire.
