The festival was established in 2001 to foster unity amongst these four villages, often dubbed by locals "the back of de land" due to their being the furthest locations on the island from the capital city of Basseterre.
Traditionally, Founder's Day is observed with a combination of three events, a march through the streets of Basseterre, church service and luncheon.

His consecration was given by Samuel Emmanuel Carter, SJ, Archbishop of Kingston, Kelvin Edward Felix, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Castries and Joseph Oliver Bowers, SVD, former bishop of the Diocese of Saint John's-Basseterre on 8th October of the same year.
He began his education at the Charlestown Boys Primary School in Charlestown, where he excelled and drew the attention of H.C. Huggins, who awarded him a scholarship for secondary school studies at St. Kitts-Nevis Grammar School in Basseterre.
In recognition and acknowledgement of his work in Ghana, when the diocese of St. John's-Basseterre in the West Indies was created in 1971 - comprising the islands of Antigua-Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands - Bowers was appointed its first bishop on January 16, 1971, becoming the chief pastor in Antigua.
