Named after the family of Freycinet, which had two brothers Henri Desaules and Louis de Freycinet - who were on the Baudin expedition.
Currently, Baudin - first seen in Deadhouse Gates, where he is charged with the protection of Captain Ganoes Paran's and Adjunct Tavore Paran's sister Felisin by the latter.
The two expeditions famously encountered each other in 1802 at what would be named Encounter Bay in South Australia, then Baudin continued westward, arriving at King George Sound in February 1803.
Antoine Sautier (?–1801) was a student gardener who was invited to join the Baudin scientific expedition (1800–1804) in the corvettes Géographe and Naturaliste to chart the coast of New Holland (Australia), make scientific observations and collect natural history specimens.
In November 1809 Baudin was ordered to take the 80-gun ships of the line Robuste and Borée, the 74-gun Lion and the frigates Pauline and Pomone and escort a twenty ship convoy from Toulon to Barcelona to supply the Napoleonic forces fighting the Peninsular War.

Seeing that the enemy had gained speed and was trying to block his path, Baudin ordered his ships to make for land as fast as possible, but this only led to the Robuste and Lion going aground - to deny them to the British, Baudin ordered them set on fire and scuttled near Frontignan.
