Jody McCrea, who played "Deadhead" in Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party and Bikini Beach, is now called "Bonehead" in this film, as AIP had decided the term "Deadhead" was a so-called 'bankable noun' and had decided to cast Avalon as the title character of their upcoming Sergeant Deadhead.
The term then became commonplace in Beach Party films of the 1960s such as Beach Blanket Bingo, where the "Big Kahuna" was the best surfer on the beach.
The opening theme, "Beach Blanket Bingo", first appeared in the 1965 movie, Beach Blanket Bingo.

They meet the tribal chief who explains that the villagers learned English "from watching a lot of beach movies", and that the car was originally owned by the Cruiser, a James Dean/Fonzie-styled legend who drove his car into the village in 1957 and introduced the people to the 1950s pop culture.
The Von Zipper character, leader of the Rat Pack motorcycle gang, was a parody of Marlon Brando's role in The Wild One (Von Zipper reveals in Beach Blanket Bingo that one of his idols was "Marlo Brandon".) Among other things, Von Zipper pronounced his judgments on others by saying "Him, I like", or "Him, I do not like".
