After being promoted to head engineer at Applewood, Beau got his first production job working for Chicago producer and Caribou Ranch Studios owner James William Guercio.

Beau moved to New York City, signed with Chrysalis Records and Aucoin Management (Kiss, Billy Idol), and recorded the debut album with his new group “Shanghai”, produced by Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock.
The label re-released their debut in 2008 adding the new song and single 'Jackhammer' which was mixed by legendary producer Beau Hill.
The album was recorded in Los Angeles, USA and produced by Beau Hill and by Kip Winger's brother Paul.
Once again produced by Beau Hill, the album features hook-driven, progressive-tinged, radio-friendly pop metal.

At least two more songs were recorded during the In the Heart of the Young sessions, but "All I Ever Wanted" and "Never" did not make it to the final album in America, because producer Beau Hill found them too heavy for the Winger sound.
Beau Hill produced the album, and the cover-model is Playboy model Marianne Gravatte, who also made an appearance in the "Lay It Down" music video.
Produced by Beau Hill, Out of the Cellar features Ratt's best-known hit, "Round and Round".
