In 1864 the whole estate was sold to William Percy Herrick of Beaumanor Hall.

It is also widely rumoured that this listening post knew details of the Katyn massacre as early as 1941; however, the British government files were not released to the public, as it would implicate surviving perpetrators.

The park became a secret listening station where encrypted enemy signals (Morse code) were intercepted and sent to the famous Station X at Bletchley Park (by motorbike everyday) for decoding.

Woodhouse, Leicestershire

Beaumanor Hall, ancestral home of the Herrick family, was used as a listening station during the war.

In 2005 Welbeck College moved to the village, on the edge of the grounds of Beaumanor Hall.
