The pirates set sail for China and, repainting and refitting the ship within two days, arrived in Beihai where they used forged papers to sell the ship's cargo of sugar.
The name of the city means "north of the sea" in Chinese, signifying its status as a seaport on the north shore of the Gulf of Tonkin, which has granted it historical importance as a port of international trade for Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan.
In Beihai Park, one could find Taihu rocks shipped from the Henan province and a variety of art collections ranging from jade jars from the Yuan-era to a collection of 495 steles bearing inscriptions by trees of hundreds of years old.
Around the same time, rival Liang Dynasty's Emperor Wu created Emperor Xiaozhuang's cousin Yuan Hao the Prince of Beihai, who had fled to Liang following the Heyin Massacre, the Prince of Wei and sent an army commanded by the general Chen Qingzhi to escort him, with an intent to install Yuan Hao as Northern Wei's emperor as a vassal state to Liang.

The city is bordered on the east by Maoming Municipality (茂名市); on the south by Wuchuan City (吴川市), Potou District (坡头区) and Suixi County (遂溪县), all in Zhanjiang; on the west by Anpugang Harbour (安铺港, part of the Gulf of Tonkin) and Beihai, in Guangxi Province; and on the north by Yulin.
Born in Ju prefecture in Beihai county (today the eastern part of Lechang, Shandong), Hu Gan from his youth obtaind reputation for good memory and diligent studies.
It is not known when Tuoba Xie was born, but he was a younger brother to Emperor Xiaowen and was younger to all of the six other sons of their father Emperor Xianwen except Tuoba Xiang (拓拔詳) the Prince of Beihai.
