The Belanglo State Forest is located south of Berrima in the Southern Highlands, three kilometres west of the Hume Highway between Sydney and Canberra.
The $100,000 portrait prize for her painting What I Assume You Shall Assume, was a naked self-portrait set in the Belanglo State Forest a scene of menace as the site of the backpacker murders.
These are held regularly at two locations: the Dudley Chesham Sports ground at The Oaks, owned by Wollondilly Council; and a property at Belanglo Forest, owned by International House, University of Sydney, for the purpose of telescopic observing and astro-imaging.

On 19 September 1992, a group of orienteers discovered a decaying corpse while orienteering in the Belanglo State Forest.
