A non-prescriptive group of artists were involved, whose ideals and practices varied widely: Albert Gleizes, František Kupka, Piet Mondrian, Jean Arp, Marlow Moss, Naum Gabo,Alberto Magnelli, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Kurt Schwitters, Wassily Kandinsky, Théo Kerg, Taro Okamoto, Paule Vézelay, Hans Erni, Bart van der Leck, Leon Tutundjian and John Wardell Power.
His other friends and neighbours over the years included Piet Mondrian, Henry Moore, Herbert Read, Walter Gropius, Alexander Calder and Ben Nicholson.
They were soon joined by their friends Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth and their triplets, and Naum Gabo and his wife Miriam Gabo, and then subsequently Margaret’s college friend Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Marlborough staged exhibitions by Frank Auerbach, Lynn Chadwick, Lucian Freud, Barbara Hepworth, R.B. Kitaj, Ben Nicholson, Victor Pasmore, John Piper, Graham Sutherland, Jacques Lipchitz, René Magritte, Max Beckmann, Max Bill, and Henri Matisse.
In summer of 2012, Salisbury Museum presented 'Circles And Tangents' featuring the work of artists connected with Cranborne Chase, including Augustus John, Henry Lamb, Ben Nicholson, John Craxton, Lucian Freud, Stanley Spencer, Elisabeth Frink, William Nicholson and over 25 other artists.
Sax Impey currently lives and works in St Ives, Cornwall, occupying one of the prestigious Porthmeor Studios continuing in the tradition of Patrick Heron, Ben Nicholson and other recognized artists.
While Menzies was an exceptional copywriter, Brumwell played a key role in liaising with leading contemporary artists of the time: Edward Bawden, Ben Nicholson, Edward McKnight Kauffer and Barbara Hepworth.
Recent years have seen the gallery continue to expand in this direction, with shows by American artists including Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann and Shirley Kaneda, European painters Bram Bogart and Pia Fries, and British artists Ben Nicholson, William Tillyer, Bruce McLean, and Marc Vaux.
Colleagues at the Architectural Association included David Chipperfield, Zaha Hadid, Susannah Hagan, and Ben Nicholson.
