Son of pioneering industrialist Sir Rajendra Nath Mookerjee and Lady Jadumati, he studied Engineering at Bengal Engineering College before proceeding to Trinity College, Cambridge, from where he did his B.A. and M.A. On return to India in 1924, he joined Martin & Co. in 1924.
An engineering graduate from the prestigious Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, which was then affiliated with the University of Calcutta, he joined the Calcutta engineering firm M.N. Dastur & Company (P) Ltd, after the break-up of Moheener Ghoraguli.
Dr. Young has also taught as a visiting professor at Bengal Engineering College in Calcutta, India, and served as chief of the Energy Manpower and Training Project sponsored by USAir in Bandung, Indonesia.
