In the United States Benjamin Latrobe, the architect of the Capitol building in Washington DC, designed a series of botanically American orders.
Built in 1792, it was the first work of the architect Benjamin Latrobe, who was also responsible for the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. It was one of the first houses in England built in the Greek Revival style.
In 1839, with Benjamin Latrobe, John Jervis, J Edgar Thomson, Claudius Crozet, Horatio Allen, Henry Campbell, and others he helped organize the American Society of Civil Engineers in Philadelphia; although this organization languished he helped form a new AS of CE in New York in 1852.
