Benjamin Hooks

Young Benjamin’s paternal grandmother, Julia Britton Hooks (1852–1942), graduated from Berea College in Kentucky in 1874 and was only the second American black woman to graduate from college.

Jonas Friddle and The Majority

Jonas Friddle is originally from Black Mountain, North Carolina, where he attended Berea College.


Crystal Wilkinson

In the spring of 2004, she served as the Writer-in-Residence for the Appalachian College Association, conducting advanced creative writing classes and one-on-one instruction for undergraduate writing students at Cumberland College, Lindsey Wilson College and Berea College.
