Henry Wenceslaus was appointed in 1608 as rector of the Viadrina European University in Frankfurt (Oder).

After his father's death in 1617, he took up government of the Duchy of Bernstadt.
The orphaned Riedel was raised by his grandmother in Bernstadt.
In Bernstadt on 17 August 1688 and eighteen months after the death of his first wife, Philipp married secondly with Louise Elisabeth of Württemberg-Oels.
