After being granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to discuss the issue, Bersih subsequently agreed on 5 July 2011 to move the rally from the streets to Stadium Merdeka.
Bersih launched 1BlackMalaysia campaign on May 5, 2009 as an act of civil disobedience in protesting to what it called as an "ongoing Perak coup" by Barisan Nasional.
