Bethlen, son of Lőrinc (12th century) was a Hungarian nobleman, ancestor of the Bethlen and Apafi families.
The Bethlen Castle, built in the 16th century in the French Renaissance style and restored in the 17th-18th centuries in the Baroque style.
Bethlen had been appointed to the office after the Sultan's removal of Gabriel Báthory (ordered to the troops of Iskender Pasha in 1613).
After leaving Göttingen, Gyarmathi became a teacher-administrator at the Calvinist College in Zalău (Zilah), before returning to work as the family physician to the Bethlens in 1810.
